THE HIGH COUNCIL FOR THE EVALUATION AND HIGHER EDUCATION (HCÉRES) GRANTS AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY (ABU) ACCREDITATION FOR M.Sc., Ph.D. PROGRAMMES IN BIOCHEMISTRY

The High Council for the Evaluation and Higher Education (HCÉRES), Paris, France has granted Ahmadu Bello University full accreditation for M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes in Biochemistry.

The institution’s B.Sc. Biochemistry is accredited with conditions for three years (15th March, 2024 – 15th March, 2027), while its Ph.D. Biochemistry is fully accredited for five years (15th March, 2024 – 15th March, 2029).

The accreditations for the two postgraduate programmes were issued after the external evaluation implemented by HCÉRES in October, 2022, and acording to the accreditation criteria adopted by HCERES Board on 29th September, 2022.

This was contained in the Vice-Chancellor’s report and resolutions of the 534th (Regular) Senate Meeting held at the University Senate Chamber on Thursday, 28th March, 2024.

The two accreditation certificates granted the institution’s Department of Biochemistry were signed by Stephane Le Bouler, the Ag. President of the HCÉRES.

Consequently, Senate of the University noted and congratulated the Department of Biochemistry for securing the international accreditations for the two postgraduate programmes.

Similarly, it approved the recommendations of the Senate Standing Committee (SSC) arising from the committee’s 148th meeting held on 20th December, 2023 on all cases of examinations misconduct from the faculties of Arts and Physical Sciences.

It also ratified the list of graduating students from the faculties of Engineering and Veterinary Medicine which were earlier approved administratively.

The Senate further approved the list of graduating students as recommended by the Senate Standing Committee at its 148th and 150th meetings held on 20th December, 2023, 8th January and 12th February, 2024 from the Faculty of Education.

Also, the Senate approved the recommendation of the School of Postgraduate Studies Board arising from its 335th meeting for the award of higher degrees and postgraduate diplomas to 219 candidates from 16 faculties.

Equally, the Senate congratulated the staff members whose promotions to the ranks of Reader and Professor were announced upon receipt of positive external reports as summarized as follows: Professor 2 and Reader/Principal Research Fellow 4.
