OYO STATE COLLEGE OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY, ELEYELE (OYSCONME) MATRICULATES FIRST SET OF JAMB INTAKE

Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery has organized its Maiden Matriculation ceremony to welcome the first set of JAMB intake students into the Basic Nursing programme.

While welcoming the matriculants, the Honourable Commissioner for Health who was represented by Dr Kehinde Ayinde commended the efforts of His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde in leaving no stone unturned to enhance the quality of Nursing education in the State.

She stated that the Seyi Makinde-led administration prioritized the advancement of Nursing education by introducing the award of academic certificate of National Diploma in addition to the usual Registered Nurse and Midwife that is traditionally awarded by the Nursing Council.

According to her, ” this significant achievement was made possible through a collaborative partnership between the Nursing Council and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The program’s inclusion under the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) indicates the administration’s commitment towards expanding access to quality Nursing education and ensuring the development of Nursing Professionals in the State”.

The Honourable Commissioner congratulated the matriculants and charged them to be of good conduct and always bear in mind that they are partners with the State Government in the provision of Healthcare delivery.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Provost of the College, Dr Gbonjubola Owolabi, welcomed the matriculants and stated that one hundred and thirty (130) students are being matriculated into the Basic Nursing programme of the College.

She reiterated that plans are in top gear to invite the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for accreditation of the commencement of Higher National Diploma, which would make graduates of the programme eligible to participate in the National Youth Service Scheme.

Dr Owolabi expressed her profound appreciation to His Excellency for his unwavering support for the College and for providing a conducive environment for learning.
