ABEOKUTA – To further maintain its giant strides in technological education and meet up with the 21st century ICT learning, the management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State has announced introduction of nine new courses for the Polytechnic.

The Acting Rector of the institution, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji who disclosed this to newsmen on Monday said there is need to expand scope of academic learning for many admission seekers.

Dr. Odedeji noted that, this was made possible following the N245million Centre for Vocational Training and Skill Acquisition donated to the Polytechnic by TETFUND.

The acting Rector who noted that the Polytechnic would start awarding degree certificate for some of its HND programmes from next academic session, added that, new courses have been accredited for its HND programmes.

He enumerated the new programmes to include; Cyber security, Software and Hardware Engineering, Epistemology and Disease Control Technology, Fisheries, Social Development, Library Science Technology, and Environmental Biology.

According to him, the new HND courses such as Hospitality Management, Mechanical engineering, Leisure and Tourism, Quantity Survey, HND Surveying and Geoformatics would create platform for their students who did their ND programmes with the school.

“I’ve just realized that, there’s a need for us to increase our programme based, that’s why we’re bringing these new courses. For example, the first course is Cyber Security, Hardware and Software Engineering, they are programmes that will domicile at the N245million Centre for Vocational Training and Skill Acquisition since the centre deals with ICT. With the facilities available we cannot just use it for skill acquisition alone, so we must maximally exploit beyond the potentials government has made available to us.

The covid-19 has taught us lots of lessons, that’s why we’re bringing in epistemology and Disease Control Technology, Environmental Health Technology. The beauty of it, is that, at the end of the day, we will be establishing school of Health technology that will consist of pharmaceutical technology department, department of nutrition and ethics, department of epistemology and disease control and eventually, department of Nursing technology.

Apart from that, we’re also going into fisheries. We want to convert the water lock area into fish pond, and that will become a practical field for our students. We are also introducing social development as a course, library science technology and information and Environmental Biology.

Apart from this, we will be introducing new programmes at HND level. HND Mechanical engineering, HND hospitality management, HND Leisure and Tourism, HND Quantity Survey, HND Surveying and Geoformatics. All the programmes are run at ND level and we have produced many ND students, so we can’t afford to just abandon them, there’s a need for us to create platform for them to have their HND and above all, we will be starting our B. Tech next session.”
