FG Makes U-turn, Stops Resumption of Schools

The Federal Government has stopped the planned resumption of federal schools, and stopped students from sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) which was earlier scheduled for August 4 to September 5.

Addressing State House Correspondents at the end of a virtual Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the villa, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, said federal schools would remain closed until it is safe to reopen them.

Adamu further urged state governments that have announced school resumption plans to consider a reverse of the decision.

“I would prefer that Nigerian students lose an academic year than to expose them to health dangers amid the coronavirus pandemic,” he stated.

Adamu added that the West African Examinations Council cannot not determine the resumption date of schools for Nigeria
