UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN [UNILORIN] SECURES 100% NUC ACCREDITATION

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), one of Nigeria’s leading federal institutions, has proudly announced a major academic milestone 100% accreditation status in the recent National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation exercise conducted in October/November 2024. This was officially confirmed in a letter dated April 30, 2025, from the NUC to the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN.

Out of the 37 academic programmes submitted by UNILORIN for accreditation, 36 received full accreditation, while only one programme, Hausa, was granted interim accreditation. No programme was denied accreditation, making this a 100% success rate.

 

Breakdown of Accredited Programmes by Faculty

Faculty of Management Sciences:

Finance received full accreditation

Faculty of Basic Medical Science:

Anatomy, the only course presented, got full accreditation.

Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences:

Computer Science received full accreditation.

Faculty of Education:

All 17 programmes were fully accredited.

Faculty of Engineering and Technology:

Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering were fully accredited.

Faculties of Environmental Sciences, Clinical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences:

All courses presented secured full accreditation.

Faculty of Physical Sciences and Social Sciences:

A total of seven programmes were accredited (3 from Physical Sciences and 4 from Social Sciences).

Faculty of Arts:

Igbo was granted full accreditation.

Hausa received interim accreditation.

Reactions from the University Community

Reacting to the development, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, Vice Chancellor of UNILORIN, expressed immense joy and satisfaction, stating:

We are happy to be so recognised; we are indeed elated.

He further credited the success to the consistent and strategic investments in human and material resources by the University Administration

The Vice Chancellor also extended appreciation to the Provosts, Deans, Heads of Departments, and faculty members who made the accreditation success possible. He emphasized the university’s ongoing commitment to maintaining its standards and striving for even greater achievements in the future:

“It is our hope that we would continue to do our best to position the University for more recognitions. We want to assure everybody that the Administration will continue to appreciate them.”
