Following an outstanding performance in the preliminary rounds of the inaugural edition of the Africa Youth Trade Debate organized by the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), where Unilorin secured the zonal crown in June 2023, the University of Ìlọrin Debate Team was granted an all-expenses-paid trip to Lusaka, Zambia, for the Grand Finals of the competition.
The AFCTA symposium, scheduled from the 21st to the 23rd of August, hosted the debate Grand Finale on the 22nd of August 2023, where the University of Ilorin team engaged in a closely contested battle of ideas against the Kwame Nkrumah University, Zambia team.
At the conclusion of the contest, THE UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN TEAM WAS ANNOUNCED AS THE OVERALL CHAMPION IN AFRICA.
The team was composed of:
1. Olayinka Esther (Agriculture)
2. Olafisoye Tolulope (Law)
3. John-Kalio Peace (Law)
4. Ayodele Samuel (Engineering)
5. Owólabí Victor (Education)
Alongside securing the championship trophy, one of the team members, Olafisoye Tolulope, also earned another trophy for the Overall Best Speaker at the tournament.
