Following the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa chapter, there was no the academic activities on the campus on Monday.
The lecturers embarked on an indefinite strike action on last Friday to press home its demands.
The Registrar of the university, Mr Ganiyu Saliu, said the management of the school would meet the leadership of ASUU to resolve the matter. He also disclosed that as part of the efforts to resolve the issue, the school had paid a one month salary to the striking lecturers.
He said, “ We are making efforts to resolve the matter, the management would meet the leadership of the union this (Monday) evening on the union .
“We are appealing to them to resume, we have paid one month salary today (Monday), they requested for two months, we are looking for ways to pay the second one before the week runs out . We are seriously looking for the money. We are appealing to the lecturers to consider the students who want to write exams.”
The OAUSTECH ASUU chairman and Secretary, Dr Dipo Akomolafe and Dr Rotimi Olorunsola, respectively, in a statement said the body had resolved to embark on the strike after all efforts to avert it proved abortive.
The statement read, “The congress considered and deliberated extensively on the two agreements reached with the university administration, various meetings held with the university administration and the university Governing Council.”
