…Company set to provide internet service for LASU Campuses
In the bid towards earning better visibility for Lagos State University on the World Map and improving the University ranking, the University Management led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi I. Olatunji – Bello, mni, on Friday, 7th January 2022, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VDT Communications Limited on the provision of internet service for the institution.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) takes care of the provision of internet services for the University’s main Campus – Ojo, Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja and Epe Campuses respectively.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olatunji – Bello, mni, in her opening remark welcomed the team from VDT Communications Limited led by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abiodun Omoniyi.
She briefed the team on the University’s experience in relation to the internet seevice and hoped that the company will deliver excellently on the Memorandum of Understanding signed. Her words “…our vision of becoming the best University in West Africa will be almost 70% achieved once we have the internet. I’m so happy today and it’s an amazing thing and I know that God has hand in it.”
According to the Vice Chancellor, the internet service will be for the members of staff (Teaching and Non – Teaching) and world class students of the University.
The leader of the team from VDT Communications Ltd, Engr. Biodun Omoniyi thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi I. Olatunji – Bello, mni, and other members of the Management for believing in the company and entrusting them with the opportunity.
Engr. Omoniyi promised on behalf of his team that the company will do a lot more than envisioned. He said “…our company VDT Communications Limited has been around for more than Twenty (20) years providing services. We mean well…it is just going to be the beginning of better things to come.”
He equally promised to work with the Directorate of Information, Communication Technology to see the project through.
The Acting Director, Directorate of Information, Communication, Technology (DICT), Dr. Toyin Enikuomehin, appreciated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi I. Olatunji – Bello, mni and members of the University Management for their effort towards making possible the signing of the MoU.
His words”…the need for internet services in the University can not be overemphasised. The signing of the MoU is coming at the right time as it will broaden the scope of research, creativity and innovation of staff and students of the University…almost all the statutory services are web – based ranging from online learning, virtual public lectures, promotion and assessment evaluation forms for teaching and non – teaching members of staff are all web – based.” he said
Dr. Enikuomehin averred that availability of internet will give users a seamless experience on the platforms. “…in keying to the vision of the Vice Chancellor, the ICT reiterates that students operational life cycle is real time thus making service delivery fast and efficient.”
It should be noted that VDT Communications Ltd, is a licensed Private Network service provider specializing in the provision of Enterprise Wide Area Network (WAN) and Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) link connectivity using fiber Optic and Wireless Communication infrastructure and access networks.
Other members of the University Management at the historic event include : Deputy Vice Chancellors (Academic and Administration) Prof. Elias Wahab and Prof. Adenike O. Boyo, and the Acting Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Fanu.
The Deputy Registrar, Legal Unit, Mrs. O.O Boyejo led the Legal team of the University.
Principal Assistant Registrar; Vice Chancellor’s Office, Dr. Lateef Shekoni, Principal Assistant Registrar/Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor; Mr. Lateef Salami, Protocol Officer, Mr. Johnson Bamigboye, Members of staff from the Directorate of ICT and Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations (CIPPR) were part of the event.
Other members on the VDT Communications team include : Abimbola Ikumariegbe, Vincent Olorungbeja, David Ese and Paul Adebayo.
The Acting Director, DICT gave the vote of thanks.
