Kano State Ministry of Education has extended the resumption dates for all public/ private primary and secondary schools in the state by one week.
The Commissioner of Education, Malam Muhammad Kiru said that the one week extension was aimed at normalizing the state academic calendar after series of disruptions as a result of the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, all boarding school students are to resume on Sunday, September 12, 2021, as against September 5, 2021.
He also disclosed that other categories of students are to resume on Monday, September 13, 2021, as against September 6, 2021, earlier announced.Malam Kiru expressed appreciation to parents and guardians for the support they are according to the ministry, hoping that the tempo will be sustained.He appealed to them to ensure that their wards resume school at the stipulated dates.Meanwhile, the state government has approved the immediate commencement of intensive training for 600 teachers with education backgrounds deployed from various MDAs, LEAs and Local Government Councils.Malam Kiru, in a statement issued by the ministry’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Yusuf, disclosed that the one week intensive training programme is to serve as a refresher course for the teachers with a view totraining them on proper track of the teaching line.He said: “As civil servants with teaching qualifications but engaged in different non-teaching schedules over the years and now deployed back to the education sector to teach, giving them an intensive training on teaching methodology and other related courses will no doubt refresh their capacities to serve better.”According to him, the 200 teachers each will be selected from the senatorial zones as master trainers that will facilitate step-down training to other teachers.
