The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Federal University of Technology Owerri zone (ASUU-FUTO) today, had their congress in a bid to decide on the nationwide strike declared by the national Union.
The congress meeting which started exactly by 12:30pm was held at FWT auditorium, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology.
Innovative Media correspondent present at the meeting, confirmed that a motion of joining the nationwide strike declared by the national body, was moved and supported, with no counter motion recorded.
In a short interview with a lecturer of General Studies, who also confirmed the strike decision by the branch Union, was asked when an official statement would be released to that effect, he disclosed to our correspondent that it would be released soonest.
When further asked if practicals would continue now that FUTO have joined in strike action, he replied thus:
“Practicals are subsets of courses. When a leader is on strike, do you expect the servants to be working?
“We are on strike so no practical will be held during this period. No lectures also will be observed onwards until anytime the strike is suspended,” he concluded.
Recall, ASUU had on Monday, declared a national strike action which began on 14th February, 2022 in a press conference at the University of Lagos, in a bid to press forward their needs.
