ASUU STRIKE: STUDENTS NOW ENGAGE IN IMMORAL ACTIVITIES, GROUP CRIES OUT

The Student Wing of Coalition of Northern Group (SW-CNG), Kwara State chapter, has called for the suspension of the ongoing strike by staff of universities and colleges of education across the country.

The students, who described the strike as detrimental to the future of the youths and development of the country, said the affected students now engaged in immoral activities.

Addressing a press conference in Ilorin on the issue on Friday, the SW-CNG Kwara State Coordinator, Amb. Akanbi Shola llyas, appealed to the striking unions in the state and across the country to sheathe their swords and allow dialogue in the interest of peace, stability and the student’s interest.

He said, “Many of the students are now engaged in all forms of immoral activities which are inimical to their development and constitue security treat to the entire society.

“If this strike lingers for too long, it is bad for our democracy which has become firmly rooted for many years now especially at period when the nation is at the peak of electing new leaders in the state and the nation at large.

“For the security of lives and properties in the country, there is the need for a rethink to suspend the strike by our lecturers, to give room for dialogue and negotiation because the students are the most affected.”

He said group in its recent town hall meetings in Kano with the traditional rulers, security agents, civil society organisations and parents resolved to appeal to the unions to suspend the strike.

“To continue the strike is harmful not only to the students and youths, but also destructive to the future of the nation.
