VC APPROVES PROMOTION OF NEW ACADEMICS OF ABSU
As part of the staff welfare oriented policy of the administration, the Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, has approved the promotion of all senior and junior academics of the University who are due, to various ranks in the 2020 and 2021 promotion exercise.
Speaking during the 39th regular meeting of the Appointments and Promotions Committee A&PC, Academic, at the senate chamber, the Vice-Chancellor stated the resolve of his administration to clear all arrears of promotions and start on clean slate for subsequent promotions as and when due.
He urged the academics to be more effective in teaching, research and publications of their works in international journals to move up in the profession as well as help improve the ranking of the University.
Also speaking at the end of the meeting, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor(DVC) Administration, Professor G.I.N Emezue and the ASUU-ABSU Chairman, Dr Victor Nkemdirim, in their seperate remarks, expressed appreciation to the Vice-chancellor for prioritizing the welfare of staff in his administration, adding that the gesture will motivate the academic staff into more productivity.
The meeting also featured the approval for the first time in the history of the University, a new career structure for librarians as academic staff, in line with national and global best practices to prevent career stagnation.
Recall that the Vice-Chancellor had earlier approved the clearance of arrears of promotions and regularizations for the non- teaching staff in a similar meeting of A&PC of the University, an achievement which has set him apart, as the most staff welfare friendly Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Present at the meeting were other Principal officers of the University, representative of the permanent secretary ministry of education, deans of faculties and other members of the A&PC committee, academic.
