NUC APPROVES B-TECH DEGREE IN PROSTHETICS AND ORTHOTICS AT THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, OWERRI, IN AFFILIATION WITH THE FEDERAL COLLEGE OF ORTHOPAEDIC TECHNOLOGY
Following a verification exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Federal College of Orthopaedic Technology (FECOT) has received approval to commence a Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech) programme in Prosthetics and Orthotics, in affiliation with the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
Officials from the NUC visited the college to assess its facilities, manpower, and academic infrastructure to ensure they meet the standards required for a degree-awarding partnership.
The Chief Academic Planning Officer of the NUC, Mr. Tanla Ayafa, praised FUTO as an institution of excellence. He expressed confidence that the university would effectively oversee the college’s educational activities, with the NUC also monitoring progress to ensure the B-Tech degree programme adheres to its academic guidelines.
The Medical Director, Dr. Mustapha Faiz Alimi, represented by the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Wakeel Lawal, thanked the visiting NUC team and commended officials from FUTO for their unwavering support in establishing the B-Tech degree programme.
During the visit, the delegation toured workshops, classrooms, and other facilities, engaging in discussions with the college’s management and academic staff.
This affiliation with FUTO provides students in FECOT’s Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics, who are currently pursuing ND and HND qualifications in the field, with the opportunity to enroll in the B-Tech degree programme. This initiative ensures that students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in Prosthetics and Orthotics, paving the way for academic and professional excellence.
