The Oyo state government has canceled the third term for the 2019/2020 academic session in all primary and secondary schools in the state.
With this development, students would be promoted based on their academic performance in the first and second period of the suspended session
Schools activities were previously put on hold due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The board was part of the decisions reached at the meeting of the State Executive Council on Tuesday.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Olasunkanmi Olaleye said that students in terminal classes, including Elementary Six, JSS 3 and SSS 3, must proceed on holiday on July 30, and resume for exam in accordance with the reviewed academic calendar
Olaleye said: “The Oyo State Executive Council, at its meeting today, July 21, 2020, approved the academic calendar to guide the resumption of schools and other associated educational activities in the State.
“According to the approved schedule, the 2019/2020 third term has been canceled and the promotion of students, for all affected classes, will now be determined by continuous assessment of first and second term.
“Pry 6, JSS 3, and SSS 3 will proceed on vacation beginning July 30 and will resume for examination as follows;
“Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) – August 10 to 18, 2020. Competitive entrance exam to the Science Schools – August 19, 2020.
Placement test / evaluation for JSS1- August 20, 2020. Placement test in technical colleges- August 28, 2020
“SSS 3 will resume for examination as soon as WAEC announces the date.
“The academic session 2020/21, according to the calendar approved by the Council of State, is as follows;
First term: from September 21 to December 18, 2020. Second term: from January 11 to April 9, 2021. Third term: from May 3 to July 30, 2021.
“The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology encourages all stakeholders and members of the public to take note of the details of the academic calendar.”
