1.3M STUDENTS WRITE NECO EXAM NATIONWIDE

No fewer than 1.3 million candidates sat for National Examination Council (NECO) Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) examination.

The permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Arc Sonny Echono, stated this during the monitoring of the ongoing SSC examinations in some schools in Abuja yesterday.

Echono, during a tour at Government Secondary School, Garki and Federal Government Boys College, Apo, commended the progress recorded and measures taken to curtail incidences of examination malpractice.

He promised that the ministry would improve on the logistics in the deliverance of examination materials and other conditions.

He said, “For this year, we have 1.3 million candidates across the country writing this examination. With the economic hardship parents face, the number of examinations they are willing to pay for their kids to register for has been a challenge.

“There is a general belief that WAEC is more widely accepted outside the country but both of them have the same recognition nationally. It is the same thing that the National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) is suffering from.

After paying for WAEC and NECO, when it comes to the NABTEB examination which to my mind is the most important in today’s world.
